I appreciate your tone in addressing this question with understanding and intelligence. That's too rare, particularly in the US. I'm deeply concerned that, however many troops of any nationality are sent, we will be perceived by the Afghan people as being on the wrong side, or simply the wrong side, as long as their own President is seen as a corrupt puppet of outside interests. Certainly an international conference about Afghanistan as you suggest, one that includes other Mid-Eastern countries and legitimate Afghan opposition members (if we can find any!), would do a lot to legitimize the international mission there.
